Dictatorship In Animal Farm

Dictatorship, a key idea that is significant throughout the novel ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell. Dictatorship represents an authority from one leader, this is shown exceedingly from one of the main character Napoleon. Napoleon symbolizes and serves as the dictator and uses terror to control the animals on the farm. Dictatorship is significant and is represented in the events when Napoleon exiled Snowball, changed the  seven commandments and took full control/power over the farm. Orwell successfully focuses on tranny and how it evolves as animal farm also advances. The idea is shown through Napoleon’s manipulation; plus his cruel and oppressive ruling.

In Animal Farm, exiling Snowball is significant in the key idea, dictatorship. Snowball was an ally; whom Napoleon saw as an enemy, a threat in his way to be dictator. Napoleon seized to destroy, discard Snowball in order to “get his own way.” Orwell did not suddenly emerge Napoleon as the leader because Snowball, who was just as equal to be leader,  was succeeding in the rightful way of leadership and was gaining the comrades trust, by doing what benefited the farm not himself. This shows that Snowballs objectives attuned to Old Major’s principles. Representing the good guy in this situation. But Orwell implemented minor changes along the way to make Napoleon’s rise to authority more logical to the other animals. For example Napoleon, after the rebellion, took no interest in Snowballs committees but to educate the young, “he said that the education of the young was more important than anything that could be done for those who were already grown up.” But really committing a crime behind his own comrades by seizing the nine puppies to “educate” them as his band of killer guard dogs to in the future use to force confessions from innocent animals and then having them killed; displaying indication of dictatorship. Orwell’s purpose of having Napoleon banish Snowball was to give a bigger impact on the readers. Also, the event happened just when Snowball was winning in the election and was going to override Napoleon, taking the rightful place as leader. I believe that Napoleons way of leading is a true example of dictatorship, a single self-appointed leader that only cares about himself. When he exiled Snowball, this was the first significant sign of Napoleon’s uprise of dictatorship.
