How Autocracy is memorable in Animal Farm!
Autocracy, a momentous idea that is illustrated for the duration of the text ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell. When a self-appointed ruler holds all power, showing insidious way to use their power, is defined as autocracy. From the rebellion onwards, the pigs take full control over Animal Farm; using violence and the threat of assault to administer the other animals. This displays autocracy by having absolute power, showing it is memorable throughout the text. Autocracy is very noticeable, plus made memorable for the readers in the events were; Mr Jones administered the Farm, when Napoleon exiled Snowball and how Napoleon became in full power. Further in this essay, the intention is to explore in depth how memorable autocracy is shown in those events. Also, explaining how these characters in the events are examples of autocrats. All exhibiting greediness. Only wanting what’s benefiting themselves, not the farm. Orwell successfully implemented these bold characters memorably throughout Animal Farm and in how autocracy evolves as animal farm advances.
In the beginning of Animal Farm, Mr Jones administered Manor Farm. This duration of the text is memorable because it is showing that Mr Jones is an inept farmer and slovenly drunkard, who doesn’t care little for his Manor Farm and the animals who live there. Portraying Mr Jones as a true example of an autocrat. A self centered man. Like Czar Nicholas ll to the Russain Revolution or George lll to the American Colonists, Mr Jones is the embodiment of autocracy against which the animals rebel. Because Animal Farm is an allegory, based on the Russian Revolution, Mr Jones is symbolizing as a contestable leader who has the inability to rule over others. Making it more memorializing for the readers. This is shown in the first paragraph of the novel, by how Orwell describes Jones forgetting to shut the pop-holes for the hen houses but “drew himself a last glass of beer from the barrel in the scullery,” before lumbering drunkenly to bed. Because this is the exact start of Animal Farm, it is made very memorable for the readers to interpret who Mr Jones’s persona really is. However, Mr Jones wasn’t always this cruel and neglecting, shown in the line “Mr Jones, although a hard master, had been a capable farmer, but of late he had fallen on evil days.” This associates to Czar Nicholas because he did obtained power for 23 years; then because of terrible ruling, his country rebel against him. Becoming the last tsar of Russia under Romanov rule. Orwell also made the comparison of Czar Nicholas ll to Mr Jones by how he used alcoholism to represent Nicholas’s inability to rule over others. Alcohol makes people unable to think rationally or complete any tasks, this is the main reason it is illegal for people to drink while driving. Because alcoholism is a widely known problem, the readers will automatically have the impression that Mr Jones is an incompetent farmer. Orwell’s purpose of this is made memorable for the readers because it is largely expressed how autocracy ends in corruption. Representing how Mr Jones got overthrown, with all of his power. But autocracy is majorly built memorably when Mr Jones ruled Manor Farm.
In Animal Farm, exiling Snowball is memorable in the key idea autocracy. Snowball was an ally; whom Napoleon saw as an enemy, a threat in his way to being the ruler. Napoleon seized to destroy, discard Snowball in order to “get his own way.” Orwell did not suddenly emerge Napoleon as the leader because it made the event have greater effect, constructing it as memorable for the readers. Snowball, who was just as equal to be leader and was succeeding in the rightful way of leadership. Also, by gaining the comrades trust, doing what benefited the farm not himself. This shows that Snowballs objectives attuned to Old Major’s principles. Representing the good guy in this situation. But Orwell implemented minor changes along the way to make Napoleon’s rise to authority more logical and memorable to the other animals. For example Napoleon, after the rebellion, took no interest in Snowballs committees but to educate the young, “he said that the education of the young was more important than anything that could be done for those who were already grown up.” But really committing a crime behind his own comrades by seizing the nine puppies to “educate” them as his band of killer guard dogs to in the future use to force confessions from innocent animals and then having them killed; displaying indication of a controlling autocart. Orwell’s purpose of having Napoleon banish Snowball was to give a bigger impact on the readers. Also, the event happened just when Snowball was winning in the election and was going to override Napoleon, taking the rightful place as leader. Napoleons way of leading is a true example of autocracy, a single self-appointed leader that only cares about himself. When he exiled Snowball, this was the first significant sign of Napoleon’s uprise of autocracy. In my opinion, this event in Animal Farm is constructed memorably for the readers by cause of how it shows the major transformation in the allegory and how Orwell used propaganda. Autocracy is displayed memorably when Napoleon exiled Snowball.
When Napoleon became in full power, it majorly illustrated autocracy in a memorable way. Napoleon can only be ascribed to his blatant lust for power. Exemplifying how he expostulates of animalism, wanting all the power to himself. Displaying greediness and a predominant autocrat. In the start of Animal Farm, Orwell described Napoleon as a “fierce-looking” boar who’s method is “getting his own way.” This combination causes propaganda and terror that no animal can resist, and wouldn’t try to abrogate. Note, that the first action Napoleon committed, as soon as the rebellion was won, was stealing the cows milk for the pigs. This shows that even from the start of the allegory, Napoleon’s intentions are cruel and manipulative. The most memorable moment or crime that expresses the key idea autocracy through Napoleon, is his complete transformation into Mr Jones. Although, Napoleon is a much sterner and harsh ruler then the reader was ever lead to believe Mr Jones was. But by the end of the novel, Napoleon was walking on two legs, sleeping in Mr Jones’s bed, drinking alcohol, eating from Jones’s plate and trading with humans. This just shows how much Napoleon disregarded the words of Old Major. This is memorable for the readers because it reflects on how Napoleon is symbolizing a ruler who the rebellion was initialized about in the first place. Also, it is memorable because it is easy to relate to as a reader. Connecting back to the wider world, Stalin from the Russain Revolution, Napoleon’s allegorical character. Napoleon control over the farm is extensively embellished autocracy, memorably for the readers.
To conclude, autocracy is a significant and memorable key idea that is exhibited all throughout Animal Farm by George Orwell. This is memorable because it is represented in many events and displayed through bold allegorical characters. The main events were autocracy is memorable is when Mr Jones administered Manor Farm, Napoleon exiled Snowball and how Napoleon become in full power of Animal Farm. Orwell successfully implemented and based Animal Farm on the Russain Revolution; creating a powerful factual effect on the readers. Memorializing how autocracy took a big part in the revolution, but mostly how the system of autocracy results in corruption.
